Repsol’s latest addition to its range for pharmaceutical packaging and medical devices consists of new LDPE grades that offer converters a wide variety of alternatives designed to meet their needs as regards both melt flow index (0.3–20 g/10’) and density. These new grades allow converters to manufacture innovative containers, parts, and films using extrusion-coating, lamination, blown film extrusion, and injection pieces.
The LDPE extension of the range was possible due to the addition to the Repsol pharma family of the company’s LDPE plant in Sines, Portugal. This plant joins the previous units in Tarragona — for polypropylene (PP), low-density polyethylene (LDPE) and high-density polyethylene (HDPE) — and Puertollano, for ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) copolymers.
Repsol has upgraded some of its production units, to assure the best quality. They have also set up new protocols and operations to meet the best practices of the health industry as well as its demands for quality and hygiene.

Repsol and the Circular Economy
In its commitment to sustainability, all Repsol polyolefins are 100% recyclable, and the company already offers its clients a complete portfolio of Circular Polyolefins. Furthermore, their goal is to ensure that 20% of their polyolefins contain recycled plastics by 2030. Furthermore, the company has three extensive petrochemical facilities, two of them located in Spain, Puertollano, and Tarragona, and another in Portugal, Sines. They focus their strategy on the constant generation of value through differentiated products and services.
Repsol has also obtained the ISCC Plus certification for all their petrochemical complexes. They are the first to certify all their complexes for the production of circular polyolefins that use oil as a raw material obtained from plastic waste not suitable for mechanical recycling. Also, the certification allows them to market other products such as styrene, polyols, and glycols as circulars.
By being able to guarantee the traceability of the waste used, the company can offer to its customers a product with recycled material for applications that demand high cleanliness and safety requirements such as medical and food packaging or cables.
