Hiring activity related to cloud increased by a CAGR of 48% in the medical industry since 2020

The global medical industry witnessed a 48% rise in compound annual growth rate (CAGR) in new job postings related to cloud since 2020, according to GlobalData's Job Analytics database. New job postings increased by 110% year-on-year in 2021, and by 5% year-on-year in 2022.  

Notably, computer and mathematical occupations jobs accounted for 58% share of the global medical industry’s cloud-related new job postings since 2020.  

Computer and mathematical occupations drive cloud-related hiring activity

Computer and mathematical occupations, with a share of 58%, emerged as the top cloud-related job roles within the medical industry since 2020, with new job postings rising by 144% year-on-year in 2021 and rising by 11% year-on-year in 2022.  

Management occupations came in second with a share of 18%, with new job postings rising by 105% year-on-year in 2021 and rising by 19% year-on-year in 2022.  

The other prominent cloud roles include architecture and engineering occupations with an 8% share, business and financial operations occupations with a 4% share, and office and administrative support occupations with a 2% share.

The top five companies in the medical industry accounted for 27% of hiring activity  

The top five companies, in terms of the number of new job postings tracked by GlobalData, since 2020 were ResMed, Thermo Fisher Scientific, Intelerad Medical Systems, Danaher, and Koninklijke Philips. Together they accounted for a combined share of 27% of all cloud-related new jobs in the medical industry.  

ResMed posted 3,471 cloud-related jobs since 2020, followed by Thermo Fisher Scientific with 2,725 jobs, and Intelerad Medical Systems with 2,715 jobs, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.  

New job postings by ResMed increased by 212% year-on-year in 2021 and rose by 120% year-on-year in 2022, while those by Thermo Fisher Scientific increased by 109% in 2021 and rose by 6% in 2022.

Hiring activity was driven by the US with a 57% share of total new job postings since 2020  

The largest share of cloud-related new job postings in the medical industry since 2020 was in the US with 57%, followed by India (13%) and Germany (5%). The share represented by the US increased by three percentage points from 56% in 2021 to 59% in 2022.
